phyBOARD-Atlas i.MX RT1170 – Reference platform for Zephyr development with crossover MCU
The phyBOARD-Atlas i.MX RT1170 is the reference platform for the new phyCORE-i.MX RT1170 System on Module and allows you to directly access Zephyr OS for your next generation of embedded systems. Thanks to Zephyr's high level of abstraction, you can quickly port existing applications to the phyBOARD and thus rapidly create prototypes for consumer and industrial IoT as well as automation applications.
By utilizing the NXP i.MX RT1170 crossover MCU with dual-core Arm Cortex-M7 and Arm Cortex-M4, you combine classic MCU real-time capabilities with the performance of an application processor – ideal for demanding control, HMI, and edge IoT solutions. Getting started with Zephyr OS is simplified by a pre-configured board support package, sample applications, and documentation, allowing you to begin without in-depth hardware knowledge. Thanks to Zephyr's abstraction layer, existing applications can be easily transferred to the development platform, shortening development times and reducing porting risks. With its production-ready board design, the phyBOARD-Atlas is suitable not only for evaluation but also as a base platform for pre-production and small-batch production.
phyCORE-i.MX RT1170 SoM – Compact dual-core performance
At the heart of the phyBOARD Atlas is the compact phyCORE-i.MX RT1170 SoM (30 mm x 30 mm, the smallest pluggable PHYTEC module), which integrates all the essential functions of the NXP i.MX RT1170 crossover MCU: dual-core architecture with up to 1 GHz Arm Cortex-M7 and 400 MHz Arm Cortex-M4 for parallel real-time tasks and multimedia applications. The CPU offers high computing power, integrated signal processing, high-speed memory, non-volatile memory, and extensive interfaces for flexible carrier board connections; it is suitable for industrial environments (-40 to +85 °C) with Secure Boot and crypto accelerators for secure IoT edge applications.Products.
phyBOARD Atlas – Full access to all interfaces
The phyBOARD-Atlas carrier board brings the interfaces of the phyCORE-i.MX RT1170 directly to the surface, allowing for comprehensive evaluation of the i.MX-RT1170 CPU. A MIPI-DSI interface is available for display applications, and a MIPI-CSI interface for camera applications. Numerous other industrial interfaces, such as CAN, Ethernet, USB, I2C, and UART, are also integrated, enabling the direct implementation and testing of typical industrial and IoT applications. Thanks to its robust, production-ready board layout, the phyBOARD-Atlas is not only ideal for initial development but also serves as a platform for pilot production and customer-specific adaptations.
Zephyr OS – Fast software onboarding and easy migration
For the phyCORE-i.MX RT1170, PHYTEC offers a Zephyr-based real-time operating system, including a board support package, specifically tailored to the crossover architecture. Zephyr is a modular, resource-efficient RTOS with broad board support, integrated network stacks, and security features – ideal for networked, safety-critical, and industrial embedded systems. Zephyr's high level of abstraction, achieved through features such as device tree configuration, hardware abstraction layers, and standardized APIs, facilitates the reuse of existing software components and libraries on the phyBOARD-Atlas. This allows you to migrate your existing application to the new platform with manageable effort, benefit from long-term supported releases, and significantly reduce your time-to-market. With the phyBOARD-Atlas Development Kit, you can test the advantages of Zephyr directly on the target hardware – from deterministic real-time behavior and connectivity to security features and software updates. Example projects, documentation and support from PHYTEC help you to adapt the Zephyr setup to your end application and to make the transition from prototypes to series production devices as seamless as possible.
