Product details
Product characteristics
The phyCORE-i.MX 8M Plus is a high-performance system-on-module based on the NXP i.MX 8M Plus, featuring up to four Cortex-A53 cores and one Cortex-M7 for real-time tasks. A 2,3 TOPS Neural Processing Unit, the Tensilica HiFi 4 DSP, and 2D/3D graphics and image signal processors enable AI, audio, and video computing directly at the network edge. The module uses Samtec connectors, measures 40 × 37 × 6 mm, and operates in a temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C. With a 3,3 V supply, it supports power-saving modes and is suitable for industrial and embedded applications.
Powerful AI and multimedia acceleration
The integrated NPU with 2,3 TOPS enables AI inference without external accelerators. The Tensilica DSP and 3D GPU provide additional computing power for image, audio, and graphics workloads. An integrated image signal processor supports cameras up to 12 megapixels, while the H.265/4 video codec processes 1080p60 streams. This makes the SoM suitable for machine learning, speech recognition, and video analytics projects.
Areas of Application:
Industrial networking & real-time communication
Two 1GbE ports with TSN support and dual CAN FD enable deterministic data transmission in real-time networks. Additional interfaces such as PCIe 3.0, USB 3.0/2.0, I²C, SPI, UART, and PWM offer versatile connectivity options. LVDS, MIPI DSI-2, and HDMI allow for display connections, while MIPI CSI-2 and SAI support the connection of cameras and audio peripherals. The Cortex-M7 core delivers the real-time performance required for control and fieldbus tasks.
Samtec connectors & FTGA soldering module
This version utilizes Samtec connectors with two 120-pin and one 60-pin board-to-board interfaces, providing a mechanically robust connection system. Alternatively, an FTGA solder module is available, offering a low profile of 3 mm and enabling cost-effective assembly thanks to its 1,27 mm pitch. Both variants support up to 8 GB LPDDR4, 64 GB eMMC, and 256 MB SPI-NOR flash memory and feature precise RTCs and temperature sensors. The combination of a modular design and robust construction facilitates integration into various carrier boards.
Software
The phyCORE-i.MX 8M Plus is available with both Yocto-based Linux and Android operating systems. Both support the NPU, DSP, and hardware video codec, and provide drivers for all peripheral interfaces. Security features such as CAAM cryptographic units, TrustZone, Secure Boot, and a random number generator protect sensitive data. Long-term support BSPs and configuration management tools facilitate development and maintenance.
