Product details
Product characteristics
The phyFLEX-i.MX 8M Plus FPSC is a compact system-on-module based on the NXP i.MX 8M Plus, featuring up to four Cortex-A53 cores and an additional Cortex-M7 unit for real-time tasks. An integrated neural processing unit with 2,3 TOPS, a Tensilica DSP, and 3D and 2D graphics accelerators provide computing power for machine vision and AI applications. The on-chip image signal processor supports cameras up to 12 megapixels, while the video unit provides 1080p60 H.265/4 decoding and encoding. The module measures 40 × 37 × 3 mm, operates in a temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C and is pin-compatible with other phyFLEX modules thanks to the FPSC standard package.
Powerful AI and multimedia acceleration
The integrated NPU block with 2,3 TOPS enables inference-based image and speech applications directly on the module. Additionally, a Tensilica HiFi 4 DSP and a 3D GPU ensure efficient audio, graphics, and video processing. Users can thus run complex machine learning models, image classification, and object recognition without external accelerators.
Areas of Application:
Real-time communication and connectivity
Two Gigabit Ethernet interfaces with TSN support, along with PCIe 3.0, USB 3.0/2.0, Quad-UART, Dual-CAN FD, I²C, and SPI ports, cover a wide range of industrial communication requirements. MIPI CSI-2, LVDS, HDMI, and SAI enable the connection of displays, cameras, and audio peripherals. The integrated Cortex-M7 ensures deterministic behavior for control and fieldbus protocols.
Robust modularity and design flexibility
The FTGA package with a 1,27 mm pitch simplifies assembly and ensures mechanical stability. Thanks to the FPSC standard, the module is pin-compatible with other phyFLEX variants, enabling the reuse of carrier boards and easy application scalability. The combination of small dimensions and comprehensive interfaces makes the SoM suitable for embedded vision, edge AI, and Industry 4.0 applications.
Software
The phyFLEX-i.MX 8M Plus FPSC is available with a Yocto-based Linux operating system and Android. Both operating systems support the SoM's hardware accelerators and offer long-term support. BSPUpdates. Drivers for all peripheral interfaces and configuration management tools facilitate system integration. Security features such as CAAM crypto units, TrustZone, and Secure Boot protect sensitive data and enable encrypted firmware updates.
