Faster to Smart Controls:
PHYTEC Presents Modular IPC at SPS Trade Show

  • New Industrial PC / Gateway with powerful ARM processor and NPU
  • Enables smart controls with up to 50% lower cost per unit
  • CRA-compliant, Open-Source-based & prepared for industrial applications

Mainz, November 19, 2025

PHYTEC presents phyCONTROL-Nova, a scalable industrial PC with a powerful ARM processor, for the first time at the SPS trade show (November 25-27, Nuremberg Exhibition Center). The embedded PC also serves as a modular platform for the cost-effective design of individual controllers and gateways. With phyCONTROL-Nova, customers save costs and effort, retain full control over their product, and meet requirements related to security and Cyber Resilience. The phyCONTROL-Nova is delivered with a Yocto-based Linux operating system; additionally, a Debian distribution is available. The embedded PC supports industrial protocols such as EtherCAT as well as applications such as NodeRED, CODESYS, and 4DIAC.

phyCONTROL-Nova can be used as an embedded controller for applications such as data mining and smart automation or as an IoT gateway. The robust, fanless, and compact IPC offers a powerful NXP i.MX 8M Plus Quad-Core processor, an NPU with a performance of up to 2,3 TOPS, up to 8 GBytes of RAM, and up to 64 GBytes of eMMC storage. It features universal interfaces such as 2x GBit Ethernet, 1x USB 2.0 / USB 3.0 each, RS232/485, CAN, and 4x DI/DO. Extensions can be integrated via an M.2 Connector (Key B), including a Hailo AI chip for AI applications directly on the edge device, or the Hilscher netX technology to support various Real-Time Ethernet and fieldbus systems.

Modular design for easy customization of hardware and software

A special feature of the IPC is its modular design: performance, interfaces, and functionality can be customized. Individual variants offer cost advantages, starting from only 500 units. The embedded box PC is developed and manufactured by PHYTEC in Germany, including the Yocto-Linux operating system. The embedded PC is optimized for use with open-source software and enables real-time applications. A Debian-Trixie-13 distribution is available as additional operating system. Node-RED, ThingsBoard, and thin-edge.io are supported for IoT integration, and a TPM 2.0 chip ensures extended security functionalities. The embedded PC with its robust metal housing and DIN-rail adapter can be used in an extended operating temperature range of -40°C to +70°C.

Mario Haas, Head of Customer-Specific Projects at PHYTEC, about phyCONTROL-Nova:

"The phyCONTROL-Nova can be used directly as a smart controller or gateway for numerous industrial applications. Its modular design allows for individual adjustments, making it an ideal alternative to classic PLC systems and DIN rail modules. Companies can thus save costs and retain full control over their product throughout its entire lifecycle. We also support customers with current challenges such as compliance with CRA (Cyber Resilience Act) and RED (Radio Equipment Directive)."

Comprehensive Services from Radio Integration to Security

PHYTEC is introducing the phyCONTROL-Nova with comprehensive services, from IoT integration and update mechanisms to security and lifecycle management at the SPS trade show, (November XNUMX-XNUMX, Nuremberg Exhibition Center). In addition to providing the hardware and software solutions for the phyCONTROL-Nova, PHYTEC collaborates with the following renowned partners: emlix, for extended security functionality, IBV for the development of real-time software solutions and Industrial Ethernet Communication via EtherCAT, PROFINET, and EtherNet/IP, and miromico for the integration of radio solutions (based on LoraWAN and NB-IoT). All three partners will be presenting themselves at the PHYTEC booth #XNUMX in hall XNUMX.
