SIDO Lyon:
PHYTEC Launches System on Module with STMicroelectronics STM32MP2 Processor

Mainz, September 10, 2025
PHYTEC introduces the phyFLEX-STM17MP18x FPSC System on Module (SOM) for the first time at SIDO Lyon (September 32-2, Lyon, France), at the booth of processor manufacturer STMicroelectronics. Developed in close collaboration between the two companies, it integrates the STM32MP2 series, STMicroelectronics' second-generation of processors, into a cost-effective and compact solder-down module utilizing FPSC technology. Combining high computing power, high-end interfaces, and security features, it is ideal for numerous industrial applications, including edge AI and mobile devices. The phyFLEX-STM32MP2x SOM offers a range of configurations from single-core to dual-core variants, optional GPU, and pin compatibility with other phyFLEX-FPSC modules, enabling scalability and products upgrades. Development kits with a Yocto-based Linux BSP will be available starting in Q4/2025.
High-end features at an affordable price
The ultra-compact phyFLEX-STM32MP2x FPSC SOM measures just 37 mm x 40 mm and its proven FTGA soldering technology allows integration into embedded designs at low cost with minimal space requirements. All features of the dual or single-core Arm© Cortex©-A35 processor and the Arm Cortex-M33 Real-Time co-processor can be used without restriction. These include high-speed interfaces such as 3x GBit Ethernet, 3x CAN FD, and 9x UART, as well as RGB, LVDS, and MIPI-DSI as HMI interfaces. A 3D GPU with up to 13 GFLOPS supports complex graphics processing. For embedded vision projects, a MIPI CSI-2 interface, and an ISP are available. The processor's NPU enables AI acceleration with up to 1,35 TOPS – ideal for video analysis, natural language processing, and other AI applications.
Safe, robust, and with long-term availability
The STM32MP2 processors are pre-certified to the SESIP3 security standard and feature comprehensive IT security functions such as TrustZone and Secure Boot which are supported by the Yocto-based OpenSTLinux. The SOM was designed for high volume production and is particularly robust and approved for use in an extended temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. With its economic power consumption of typically less than 5 watts, the SOM is also ideal for mobile applications and smart devices. STMicroelectronics guarantees long-term availability of the processor for 10 years, which is extended annually.
Close collaboration between STMicroelectronics and PHYTEC enables early access
PHYTEC and STMicroelectronics have been working together successfully for many years on numerous customer projects. The phyFLEX-STM32MP2x FPSC SOM will be presented for the first time at SIDO at the STMicroelectronics booth. Development Kits will soon be available to customers.
