PHYTEC at embedded world:
Vision Integration Platform phyVIP reduces development effort by up to 70 percent

  • Processor, camera connection, security, and interfaces on one baseboard
  • Integrated NXP i.MX 8M Plus or i.MX 95 processor, with optional AI accelerators
  • Connector / expansion boards for customization and integration

Mainz, March 05, 2026

At embedded world (Nuremberg exhibition center, March 10–12, 2026), PHYTEC is presenting the phyVIP for the first time—a high-performance Vision Integration Platform that reduces the development effort for embedded vision projects by up to 70 percent.

The compact baseboard combines an ARM processor, camera connection, security functions, and industrial interfaces in a ready-to-use design. Highlight feature: Connectors and individual functionalities can be customized via a separate connector and expansion board. This accelerates development, reduces risks, and creates maximum design freedom.

phyVIP can be configured with either an NXP i.MX 8M Plus or i.MX 95 processor and is optionally available with a Hailo-8 or Kinara ARA-2 AI accelerator. A Linux BSP with integrated drivers for all functions ensures a quick project start. First samples of the phyVIP will be available in the second quarter of 2, along with a connector board for prototyping.

Vision Functionalities Fully Integrated

The phyVIP continues the established approach of embedded designs with System on Modules: in addition to the processor, memory, power supply, and WiFi, the fully industrial-grade phyVIP also integrates the camera connection in hardware and software, as well as security functions on a compact board. The complex vision integration is completely finished, allowing project-specific development effort to be reduced by up to 70 percent compared to ground-up embedded vision developments.

Customization with Connector / Expansion Boards

Adaptations for required interfaces and functionalities take place through an individual connector and expansion board. This board can be developed and produced very simply, quickly, and cost-effectively. Complex circuitry is already integrated onto the phyVIP. The expansion board is connected to the phyVIP using board-to-board connectors.

Scalable Computing Power with AI Acceleration

For adaptable computing power, the phyVIP base module can be configured with either an NXP i.MX 8M Plus or i.MX 95 processor. For additional AI computing power, variants with the AI accelerator chips Hailo 8 with 26 TOPS or Kinara ARA-2 with 40 TOPS are available. Furthermore, a TPM chip and other security functions are integrated to meet regulatory requirements such as CRA compliance. The modular architecture also allows for a later upgrade of the phyVIP module without renewed development effort for the connector- / expansion board.

Flexible Integration of Embedded Cameras

Up to two board-level cameras from PHYTEC's portfolio can be connected directly to the phyVIP baseboard and flexibly positioned via FFC cables. Corresponding drivers are integrated into the Linux BSP. PHYTEC offers compatible lenses and can deliver fully assembled and calibrated optics.
