Phytec at Power2Drive:
Modular electronics for EV charging
and Energy Management

  • Custom charge controllers, System on Modules and ready-to-use solutions
  • Modular design – for fast, cost-effective development and scalability
  • Custom carrier boards for chargebyte Charge SOM

Mainz, June 09, 2026

At Power2Drive Europe (June 23-25.6, Messe Munich), PHYTEC is demonstrating how EV charging solutions and energy management systems can be developed and produced easily, quickly and cost-effectively. The basis of the offering is a modular toolkit for custom electronics. It is suitable for AC and DC charging solutions as well as for High-Power Charging (HPC). In addition, PHYTEC presents its scalable System on Modules with ARM processors and Linux operating system. They provide the computing power for charge controllers and form the basis for customer-specific electronics. Custom charge controllers based on the Charge SOM from PHYTEC's partner chargebyte, as well as ready-to-use OEM solutions for a wide range of energy management applications, can also be seen at the booth.

Open Ecosystem without Vendor Lock-In

The custom charge controllers from PHYTEC are characterized by their open, scalable design and an ecosystem of open-source-based software. They can be extended with customer-specific functionalities and, for example, integrate the control of displays and operating units. This simplifies the architecture of the entire charging solutions, saves costs for development and production, and reduces the effort for lifecycle management. Customers retain full control over their electronics, without dependency on the manufacturer. The development of custom charge controllers typically takes only around ten weeks from specification to the first prototype.

Custom Charge Controllers for chargebyte Charge SOM

Full control over hardware and software without vendor lock-in applies to custom electronics from PHYTEC just as much as to the custom charge controllers that PHYTEC develops based on the chargebyte Charge SOM. The Charge SOM is a universal EVCS-on-Module for both DC and AC charging controllers. It integrates all relevant components, such as the processor, powerline communication, safety shutdown, and network technologies, onto a compact circuit board. An operating system is also part of the Charge SOM, based on EVerest—an open-source software stack and Linux Foundation project. In combination with a carrier board, the module forms a complete charging controller that meets all requirements for AC and DC charging, including ISO 15118, Plug&Charge, and bidirectional charging. Firmware maintenance is included in the hardware price. Simultaneously, the open-source software allows companies to influence the system at any time and create their own modified or extended versions of the firmware stack. The risk of vendor lock-in and manufacturer dependency is thus eliminated. A Charge SOM Evaluation Kit jointly developed by PHYTEC and chargebyte enables a direct entry into prototyping and development with the Charge SOM.

Ready-to-use Solutions for Charging Solutions and Energy Management

Ready-to-use OEM solutions for a variety of applications related to EV charging and energy management can also be seen at the PHYTEC booth at Power2Drive. Thanks to their modular design in hardware and software, the solutions can be customized to meet customer requirements and can be delivered with or without a housing. Extensive security features and functions for update and device management enable direct use in industrial series products.
