Vision 2026:
PHYTEC presents phyVIP, the integration platform for edge AI vision

Mainz, September 07, 2026

At this year's Vision trade fair (October 6–8, Messe Stuttgart), PHYTEC will showcase how it supports customers as a one-stop shop for faster, more cost-effective embedded vision development, from the earliest prototyping stages all the way through to CRA-compliant volume production. The spotlight is on the phyVIP, a new integration platform with onboard AI that cuts development effort for custom products by up to 70 percent. Also on display: components and services spanning system-on-modules and processor boards, camera modules, software, and services, right through to the delivery of custom embedded vision systems with calibrated optics.

phyVIP: taking embedded vision integration to the next level

The phyVIP is a novel platform that adds a further layer of integration on top of PHYTEC system-on-modules. Key functions such as camera integration, WiFi connectivity, and wide-range power supply are already built into the compact 60 x 73 mm board and supported by a Linux BSP (board support package). For scalable computing power, the phyVIP is available with NXP's i.MX 95 and i.MX 8M Plus processors, and the interchangeable phyFLEX system-on-modules make it easy to add further variants, even later in a product's lifecycle. For edge AI applications specifically, scalable AI accelerators and a comprehensive software ecosystem help simplify the optimization and deployment of AI models.

Customizable with connector boards

To adapt the phyVIP to individual applications, its baseboard connects via two industrial connectors to a connector/expansion board. This board carries only the interfaces actually needed, laid out as physical connections on a 2- or 4-layer PCB, making it quick and easy to develop. Available functions range from CAN and Ethernet to USB and RS485, right through to lighting control. Two connector board variants and a development kit are available now.

"The phyVIP saves up to 70 percent of development effort, because the typical requirements of embedded vision projects are already built into the baseboard from the start. Combined with scalable processors, AI accelerators, and custom connector/expansion boards, it can be adapted very easily to specific needs. The phyVIP brings together over 30 years of experience and countless projects, putting that knowledge directly to work for our customers."
Martin Klahr, Head of Digital Imaging at PHYTEC

Full-service support, including an in-house optics lab

Alongside the phyVIP, PHYTEC will also present its system-on-modules and processor boards as a foundation for custom embedded systems, together with camera modules, optics, accessories, and services. These services range from development support to security, CRA compliance, and lifecycle management offerings. PHYTEC also has assembly services in a dust-protected lab in Mainz, where optics can be focused and fixed, ready for installation. This allows PHYTEC to deliver complete embedded vision systems, subassemblies, or finished devices on request, always tailored to each customer's requirements.
