The NXP i.MX 6 Series includes a highly scalable family of embedded processors based on ARM® Cortex™-A9 technology with single-, dual-, and quad-core offerings delivering up to 1.2 GHz per core. Along with power-efficient processing capabilities, the i.MX 6 series of application processors provide a leading edge 3D graphics engine, stereoscopic image sensor support for 3D imaging, HD video engine delivering 1080p encode/decode, 3D video playback, and separate 2D engine for UI.
The processors offer a wide range of interfaces that make them suitable for industrial applications. Gigabit Ethernet, PCI Express and a SATA 2 are already integrated into the processor. The two FLEX-CAN interfaces show the specific emphasis on the automotive sector. The interfaces offer an I/O voltage of 3.3 V so that in many cases extensive level adjustment is no longer necessary. This simplifies peripheral circuitry design.
The scalable architecture of the i.MX 6 enables precise processor adjustment to target application requirements. NXP offers four i.MX 6 variants that differ in the amount of cores as well as offer a different feature set. Therefore, it is possible to adjust the multimedia unit performance.
